New Trojan horse scam involving fake Windows 7 compatibility checker

Published May 11, 2010

Scam emails are being sent out which offer users the ability to have their PC scanned to determine if it can run Windows 7 with no problem. The email lifts the marketing text directly from Microsoft's website which offers the legitimate service.

Users who download and install the zipped attachment from the scam email end up with a Trojan horse program which can steal their banking information, other personal information, and can even fully take over their PC.
