Facebook Rolls Out Simplified Privacy Controls
If Facebook were a country, at nearly 500,000,000 users, it would be the third largest country in the world. According to a recent Facebook press release, half of all Facebook users visit the site everyday. Further, all Facebook users spend a combined 500 billion minutes (equivalent to 951,293 years) a month on the site. With so many users sharing so much information, it might seem obvious that the site’s privacy controls are very important.
Recently Facebook has come under increased scrutiny about how the site shares user information. In fact, the matter got the attention of Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) who then got in touch with the Federal Trade Commission.
Early this week Facebook announced that it would be offering new privacy features to address the recent backlash. If you are a Facebook user, and the numbers suggest you are, we encourage you to spend some time familiarizing yourself with the new Facebook privacy controls of which Facebook began a gradual rollout today. The next time you log into Facebook we encourage you to check out the new privacy control interface.
