Mac OS X Trojan steals data, uses your GPU to mine Bitcoins
Bitcoins are a decentralized digital currency that can be exchanged online by users without the need for an intermediary bank or payment service. Generating bitcoins requires larger and larger amounts of computer prossessor power. Thus, this Trojan horse can significantly slow down a user's machine.
Security vendor Intego says DevilRobber (also called Miner-D) is a combination of a Trojan horse, a backdoor, a stealer, and spyware: it is hidden inside other applications, it opens ports and can accept commands from command and control servers, it steals data and Bitcoin virtual money, and it sends personal data to remote servers.
As always, Secure Florida recommends you never download files from untrusted sources, keep your antivirus software updated, and run scans frequetly.
